Updates, Promises & Quick Hits

Updates, promises and a quick whip around.

First, this may be all over the place, please bear with me, it also maybe long winded, but I want to say or pledge to be more active on here, that meaning at least a weekly post.

A plethora of going-ons all over sports, with The Desiree Show and myself.
Probably one of the most amazing Series just finished up, NFL through week 8 surprises, upsets and trades. Plus the tally on Beat the Outsiders after the first 2 quarters for the weekly NFL pickem by skateboarders and a small hold on the show.

beattheoustidersMockup3-1

As previously mentioned, I will be posting at least one blog a week coinciding with the show and a catch up on past shows that you may have missed. Reminder the Desiree SHOW broadcasts at Dash Radio in Hollywood on Wednesdays, it airs 4-5 PM PST. In addition the show re-ars multiple times throughout the week. I might add some great news as well coming from DASH, which you will patiently need to wait for. The show also is uploaded to Soundcloud and ITunes.

The hold, just a small one I had a procedure two weeks ago on my leg, 13 staples and have to lay low, which is extremely difficult, but I am trying to be a good patient so I don’t have any repercussions, I’ll say make sure you are always covered with sun block and I won’t share the photo with the 13 staples, but I say that ALL was removed successfully.   I just need to let my leg heal now, something a bit challenging for a non stop human, but I am.

Since the show moved to DASH, I’ve had some amazing guests both in studio and via the phone and a slew of slated guest lined up.

10/11 BEAT THE OUTSIDERS EPISODE 2
SAL BARBIER, STEVE OLSON & MYSELF with KENNY HUGHES calling in.

This Series Dodgers / Astros World Series welcomed two over 100 win teams, the Dodgers with 104 and the Astros 101 and had surpassed many World Series. Was one of the most prolific scoring, new balls and some big time hitting. Congrats to the World Champion Houston Astros on their first tittle ever and heads high although the outcome will always produce a second place, LA Dodgers had a phenomenal run. And please no hate on the players or the GM, it’s sickening to me to see all the rants and dismissals of this team. Remember there are no losers in the WORLD SERIES, no player or GM sucks, ok…I use that as I saw that all over also asking for Dave Roberts head. Maybe you question Roberts pitching line up decisions, blame the loss on Darvish having 2 bad games, leaving 10 on base in Game 7…….doesn’t matter nor does it warrant hate, one of these teams was going to walk away the champion and the other not. This was a GAME 7 series as well!  I will say that I was pretty awed at all the players looking really nervous amplifying the importance of this game to all on the diamond.

Thank you and the utmost respect to both teams on the most amazing baseball series I have seen! Congratulations also to Correa’s to be as we all witnessed one of the most amazing proposals post game.

On to the the NFL, trade deadlines offered some shocking news, and predictably non predictable outcomes through the first 2 quarters in the season. here’s a quick I mean really quick whip around, today Colts placed Andrew Luck on IR, Ezekial Elliot will be suspended 6 weeks. The league has 2 teams still unable to get a W, and I have to confess after reading Bill Walsh’s book, ‘The Score Takes Care of Itself’ recently, a must read, I have had expectations of the 49ers in the belief that they can shift the outcome of this newly rebuilding team.  That has yet to happen however they acquired Jimmy Garroppola from the Patriots for a 2nd rounder in the 2018 draft with Hoyer making his way to New England the following day with trade to the single QB roster of the Patriots. Unfortuantely their are still 2 teams whom have yet to get a W, the poor Cleveland Browns, whom I also secretly root for weekly and the Niners.  Best record in the NFL the 7-1 Philadelphia Eagles.   There have been devastating injuries throughout, Aaron Rodgers, JJ Watt, Odell Beckham Jr, Dalvin Cook, DAvid Johnson, Julian Edelman, Andrew Luck and  more just too many to address however most currently and scary Bear’s Zach Miller, Joe Flacco’s almost decapitation from Kiko Alonson and sadly also Cleveland Browns longest starter OT Joe Thomas who now missed his first snap in 11 years. He is however doing some journalism via MMQ

Sadly just before I was finishing this post it has been reported that Houston’s DeShaun Watson is out for the season with a torn ACL sustained during practice.

Beat the Outsiders, we have had two episodes on The Desiree SHOW it’s all outside the NFL, skateboarders picking NFL games, yes I wish I could show you our text thread, however it would probably take you 3 weeks to read it and see all the gifs. As of week 8, Rob ‘Patriot’ Welsh takes the last two weeks with back to back impressive 13/15 and 12/13 bringing him in 4th with a prolific texting Cowboy Kenny Hughes in the first place, Steve ‘SKOL’ Olson in the 2nd and JT ‘Bolt‘ Aultz, I might add very quiet in the thread in 3rd. I tanked last week, made 3 changes 20 min before the AM games all for losses, but no crying in football or baseball for that matter.

Here’s the full current overall list and stay tuned for more in depth on all the players!wk8overall.jpg

Thursday Night Football kicking off in 4 hours, AFC EAST showdown.

The (5-2) Buffallo Bills at the (3-5) NY Jets. Bills find themselves a game back from the Patriots with two consecutive wins, while the Jets looking up but not out of the picture either however with 3 back to back losses. I will take the Bills tonight.

Have a dynamite week! I’m out!

Episode 2 of Beat The Outsiders, NFL Weekly Pickem by Skateboarders

The Desiree SHOW Episode 2 of Beat The Outsiders, NFL Weekly Pickem by Skateboarders.

IMG_1369

Well episode two of The Desiree Show’s “Beat the Outsiders” was as much fun as expected and as much smack talk as I had hoped plus you got a glimpse also of our actually text threads but a little censored, something I would love to share with you, but I believe you can just visualize from the show. You just can’t see the pictures.

Steve Olson and Sal Barbier join me at the Dash Studios, while Kenny Hughes called in via NYC. Raw and unedited with lots of smack talk, strong biased NFL opinions and picks, competitiveness, sass and lots of laughs!!

Also alot of protectiveness over their picks, especially the birthday to boy, Cowboy Kenny.IMG_1365(1)

Sensitivity by Sal for “his” Saints, Tigers and of course his spirit stick, (which we are all still patiently waiting to actually see even a photo of).

IMG_1188

While first place (after week 5)  Mr SKOL Olson stays his calm self with witty jabs and subtle words throughout the show

On the thread or in The Desiree SHOW Weekly NFL Pickem, Rob Welsh, Lance Dawes. Chris Pastras, Chris Ray, Packy Fancher, Vinny Ponte and JT Aultz.

Stay tuned for episode 3, 4, and 5 and….. we will try quarterly, but just like skateboarders we did it our way, after week 5.  Hopefully the entire crew can make it in once, plus special guest including Jeff Ament, GLove and Ben Harper are slated as well.

Heads up on the video dropping from our inaugural show that kick it off, thanks to former center Ted Newsome.

If you missed the show on Dash Wednesday, October 11th you can listen to it in its the raw and unedited form on Itunes TheDesireeSHOW or via Soundcloud.

Neen Williams and Michael Gehlken on the Desiree SHOW

I have the special treat of being able to have variety of amazing individuals on my show, many friends and or new friends that I get to share with you.

This particular Wednesday the 13th of September was no exception, after months and months of corresponding and scheduling I was super thankful to welcome ripping skateboarder Neen Williams in studio, and via Raider’s Training Camp in Alameda in his new home, with a new team, always thankful to welcome a journalist I hold in high regard Michael Gehlken’s whom is the current beat writer for the Raiders for the Las Vegas Review Journal.

DesShowNEENGEHLPODCASt13_2017

“Neen is one of the most inspiring and determined people I’ve ever met. It’s been awesome watching the positive transformation and everything he’s accomplished”
Erik Ellington

desshowNEEN_DES0016

Such a treat to have Neen Williams at the station for the show, someone whom obviously rips on his skateboard but he shares such a slew of positive ways which others rarely share to their fans. His passion for cooking, recipes, an organic and sober lifestyles along with his work out routines all over his Instagram stories are only a glimpse of this special soul. We need more Neen’s in this world.

“Neen Williams might be the ultimate modern day renaissance man – a charming top tier athlete who personifies healthy living, with good looks and cooking skills to boot. Neen is a well traveled bloke who exudes positivity and has some of the crispiest tricks in the game.”
Oliver Barton.

Michael Gehlken the former beat reporter for the San Diego Chargers for the Union gehlkenTribune and currently in the bay covering another AFC West team the Raiders for the Las Vegas Review Journal. With a move to Nor Cal and new team Michael always has a great perspective and shares the transition into a new city and locker room. Always tremendously grateful for his time and insight.

“I’m a big fan of Gehlken’s. He’s bright, intellectually curious and has a dry wit I appreciate from a reporter. In a world where people in that profession often desire attention and want to make themselves the story, Michael is refreshing in that he never purposefully does that. He’s not a phony.

Plus, his eating habits are fascinating. Water without ice, salad without dressing and more Quinoa consumption that anyone I know. He’s an original.” -Darren Smith

If you missed the show on Dash Radio its up on Soundcloud and Itunes or simply subscribe to The Desiree Show on Itunes, or tune in live on Wednesdays 4-5 PM PST on Dash Radio, Dash Talk.

And make sure to check out Michael Gehlken on Twitter and or all his articles on the Raiders and you definitely want to follow Neen on IG and his stories, his new YouTube station with a slew of recipes and work outs,  plus his beautiful dynamo lady Jess is an amazing baker and has some awesome special goodies on order, @LilSparksJess as well.

Lorenzo Neal on the Desiree Show

bannerWorddesshow1

I usually record my show live, however when I have a great friend, 4 x Pro Bowler and a man who has played in the NFL for a quarter of the teams, I have to take it.  Warm thanks to Lorenzo Neal for making the time for a few minutes on The Desiree SHOW, which will air tonight on the show.

LorenzoNealI2007des

We hit on Raiders week in San Diego, as the Chargers host the Raiders Sunday, Seattle Seahawks coming to San Francisco for Thursday Night Football and the role of the full back.

Also, tonight on The Desiree SHOW, Eric D. Williams, ESPN Chargers Reporter. Tune in Live on World Tuned Radio Wednesdays 5-6 PM PST.

All Eyes on San Diego tonight for MNF!

The Chargers (2-2) host the Steelers (2-2) center stage on Monday Night Football.

This week it is welcome back Antonio Gates, congrats to Phillip Rivers, the AFC Offensive Player of the Week, Chargers locker room sound, inside the lions den, and what it means to play on Monday Night.

Rivers and the offense ©desireeastorga

Another heat wave is here as the Chargers host yet another hot game.  Vets will tell rookies it’s just a Sunday game on Monday, but the truth is every eye is on you.  A chance for family, friends and the nation to watch, essentially every football fan will be watching!  Prime time, the lights, national television along with the ESPN broadcast crew, Mike Tirico and John Gruden in the booth, hopefully John won’t be playing catch with fish, perhaps he ran into Barrack Obama on the golf course or enjoyed the beach where the temperatures have reached to the upward 90’s in the last few days.

Yes, Monday Night Football is big!

Tonight will mark the 29th time the Chargers and Steelers meet in the regular season spanning from 1971 and the third Monday Night Football game.   The last time these to met in the regular season San Diego took the W 34-24 at Heinz Field December 9, 2012.

Phillip Rivers to Antonio Gates, the next TD will be 100 for Antonio ©desireeastorga
Phillip Rivers to Antonio Gates, the next TD will be 100 for Antonio ©desireeastorga

After speaking with Antonio Gates I was heart warmed to hear his response to his first MNF, it wasn’t his first, but it was Phillip Rivers first, attesting to the closeness of this group.   Antonio’s next touchdown catch will be his 100 and possibly could come tonight on his first game back for the season.

Antonio Gates on his first MNF,

“I remember Phillip’s first one, I don’t remember my first one, I remember Phillips, when he first came, against the Oakland Raiders. He threw me a touchdown and we talk about this one, this is the one I remember and this is the one that sticks in my mind.  He threw me a touchdown and he was like, “one of many” and at the time it was like whatever, he hadn’t thrown me the ball the whole game.  Come to find out how many touchdowns later and I just remember him saying it to me and he was all excited.”

Random tidbits you may not know, Malcolm Floyd’s first MNF was almost 11 years ago to the day vs. the Pittsburg Steelers on October 10th at Qualcomm, where the Steelers edged over the Chargers 24-22.

gordon7058

Playing on Monday Night Football, whether it’s the first or most memorable, I spoke with Antonio Gates, Keenan Allen, Malcom Floyd, Cordarrow Law, Tyreek Burwell, Jimmie Wilson, Jason Verrett, Javonte Herndon and Michael Ola.   Ambient locker room emotion is present and even Joe Barksdale is captured chirping in.   Enjoy, it’s raw!

After leaving camp I had an even more in depth perspective of the closeness this group does have, the “Lions Den” where all the offensive linemen congregate demonstrated to me how these players have been able to fill in and protect their quarterback, through injuries and other sorts of adversity.  It was loud, teasing and passionate the perfect recipe for any group of successful linemen. This resonates as well throughout the locker room with each positions group and is quite visible even at first glances as you see them all grouped together talking and joking amongst themselves.

The Game

Gruden: Blitzing Philip Rivers is risky proposition for Steelers

Blitzing is a big part of the Steelers’ defensive makeup, but Chargers QB Philip Rivers’ quick release — and smarts — can make Pittsburgh pay – John Gruden.

The Leader, Phillip Rivers ©desireeastorga

Antonio Gates also creates a threat to Pittsburg, whether as a decoy or not, the Steelers defense struggles with tight ends. Chargers will have their handsful keeping the leader of this team Philip Rivers upright; pass protection and opening creases for Woodhead, Gordon and Oliver in the run.

Although Pittsburg has a 42-24 record on MNF, Steelers will be without Ben Rothlisberger for the second week and with thirty-five year old Michael Vick in, but don’t dismiss the fact that Todd Haley will have eleven days of prep and tweaking.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Danny (Wonder) Woodhead, drills ©desireeastorga

The Chargers secondary will have some work this evening containing Antonio Brown and the line with halting Le’Veon Bell and D’Angelo Williams (I always think of “smash and dash”).

Both teams will duke it out to stay afloat in their respective divisions, should be a fantastic game, Chargers find a way to win in this unseasonably hot October in San Diego.
