Inside The Locker Room with Desiree always raw and unedited with ambient noise.
Wildcard week, Chargers head to Baltimore to face the Ravens for the second time in 3 weeks. I spoke with Mike Williams and Russell Okung on the match up, the advantages and the similarities with other championship teams these two have been apart of.
After Eric D Williams, ESPN beat writer for the Chargers and I spoke on the match up, again more advantages vs a team twice especially on a quick turn around and Eric even tossed in his predictions.
Up now on Itunes and Soundcloud.
Enjoy Wildcard Weekend!
And as always thank you to the Chargers PR for the opportunity and to you all for your support.
The Desiree SHOW airs on Wednedsay’s 4-5 PM PST on Dash Radio, this is a special episode during the Playoffs.
Make Sure to follow both @desiree_Astorga @TheDesireeSHOW on IG for upcoming guest along with not missing the BTS IG stories at the Chargers.
Chargers (2-2) and Raiders (1-3) reunite in LA, both have had their share of LA as their title, however this one is the Chargers. I also am reuniting with the blogging so please bare with me as this will be all over the board, a quick whip around, just so I get my rhythm rolling, so hear it goes!
This will be the second time in decades that the match up is in Los Angeles, with either as the host team, obviously last year was at the Stubhub Center, but the last time that the LA Chargers hosted before last year was November 27th 1960 where the LA Chargers walloped the Oakland Raiders 52-28, and the final time before The Raiders departure from LA, The San Diego Chargers edged over the LA Raiders 26-24 September 25th, 1994.
This rivalry started November 27th 1960 since the two have met up 117 times including 1 playoff and combined have been in multiple cities, the Raiders lead the series 63-52-1 however the Chargers hold the longest win streak (2003-2009) along with the current win streak of 2 (2017).
Oakland has a new head coach as you know, John Gruden at the helm, whom finally had his first win in nearly 10 years, even though the Raiders play with passion on the field they have shown an inability to finish games, that is until last Sunday vs. the Browns, where the received their first W in OT in the 2018 season.
Chargers came out with a W vs. the Niners, putting them at 500 but perhaps not as big as what was forecasted however many positives, but a few struggles, third down conversions and the kicking game slightly dimed the positives.
Inside the NFL kicked off their highlights this week with the fantastic NFL Films with Mic’D Up Phillip Rivers, pretty fabulous! If you didn’t get a chance to see it here it is for your viewing and listening pleasure.
Philip Rivers said that it was more balance of an offense, I have seen something else a more of a je ne sais quoi something I can’t put my finger on but, it definitely looks like there’s some cohesiveness
and a bit more of a relaxed demeanor for Phillip on the field and in his pressers.
He seems just more at ease, less strained maybe the last few years mayhem or change surrounding the moving, commute, the new city and a temporary stadium struggles have finally ebbed, but there just seems to be something different with Philip Rivers -something I haven’t seen in the 11 years I have been covering the team.
The cohesiveness with this offense coupled with the duel threat productivity in the run.
The physicality and passion in Melvin Gordon’s running, not by mistake he’s out there doing foot drills daily and has been strengthening his leg throughout the off season, (Great piece by Sam at the Athletic). And then the other half Austin Ekeler with great hands, catch and runs as well as his ability to utilize suggestions from his coaches are visibly seen.
Couple that or triple it with the big presence of Mike Pouncey and add the receivers sharing the catches and the blocking duties for the run.
All seem to be ingredients of a TEAM, no “I”, a strength of unity perhaps by a challenging few years with the move and the double edged sword of living in a place where most any away teams fans would want to come visit and take over the stadium.
Rivers has had a big stretch of success vs the Raiders actually the longest win streak between the two, and then a hiccup since last season and currently with a 2 win streak vs. Oakland.
Gus Bradley was LB coach Under Gruden at Tampa, Anthony Lynn friend of Gruden since NY days ( Presser) but the biggest one in my eyes is NT Brendan Mebane and RB Marshawn Lynch former team mates and vets both at Cal during a very special time and SB Champs with the Seattle Seahawks. There is something to practicing against some one on the daily, plus there is a long history.
At age 32, Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch hasn’t lost his touch. “He’s a lion. He just refuses to ever die. He refuses to ever let anything else beat him. He is the apex predator. Period. He’s a freak show.” https://t.co/MhdiGGBBi1
Shift with Special Teams, Chargers announced that they had released Punter Drew Kaiser ( whom was also the holder) brought in retired P and SB Champion Donnie Jones
Coach Lynn spoke on shaking things up a bit with the crucial holding position and brings in a familiarity with former team mates, both having played for the Eagles last year that and the fact that he is an experienced holder and Punter. Donnie Jones had retired after the SB, so prior to his calls, or I should I say missed calls from his agent he had been at Home Depot getting Halloween decorations, that evening he was on a flight to LA and signed the following day.
Hayley Elwood spoke with him on Wednesday on the last 24 hours.
Welcome back to DT Corey Luiget who returns after his 4 week suspension, his presence will be visibly seen and the team announced Saturday he was activated for Sundays Game and to make room, Chargers waived DT T.Y.McGill, whom has not played.
Gruden’s complimentary praises to Rivers, and Derwin James, even on Bosa, whom will not be playing on Sunday.
WR Travis Benjamin (foot), * to miss 2-3 weeks
On how Raiders plan to contain Rivers and company…….
Paul Guenther asked if his DBs are fast enough to limit big plays:
“Well we got what we got. We gotta do the best job with what we’ve got right now.”
ICYMI: Tuesday Michael Gehlken joined me on the the Desiree Show, he shares a very unique perspective having covered both teams, former UT SD beat reporter for the SD Chargers and currently Raiders beat reporter for the Las Vegas Review.
Take a listen if you missed it!
Chargers find a way to get their 3rd win at Stubhub despite it most likely being a mini sea of the Black Hole, continue their streak at get to 3-2, before hitting a 4 week road tour.
Stay up to date for the ITL a special weekly series on the Desiree SHOW on Dash Radio, also on Itunes and Soundcoud.

Welcome to ITL INSIDE THE LOCKER ROOM with Desiree.
A few weeks ago I was granted the opportunity to come to the Chargers on a regular, weekly basis.
My intent and it still is to cover the team on all my platforms, a weekly quick hits on The Desiree SHOW on Dash Radio including locker room interviews, blog entries, social media posts and in addition I came up with a fun idea.
Having the opportunity to have access is something I am super grateful for. I have covered the Chargers on many levels throughout the last 9-10 years, from shooting still photos for ESPN the Magazine, KUSI Sports for TV coverage, multiple media outlets for events on all giving back the Chargers do for the community, helping document, via photos and words or packages for KUSI-PPR among other outlets and obviously for The Desiree SHOW.
I thought that it would be pretty cool to let you all get to know some of these players on a different level from inside the locker room, with that I would like to welcome you to ITL!
Join me for this weekly locker room visit at the Hoag Performance Center in Costa Mesa, The Chargers HQ’s.
It’s odds and ends, the third dimension, birthday cheers, games, some stats, high school & college roots and more…. It’s fun, quick and raw.
Essentially a little get-to-know some of these LA Chargers players.
Join me weekly for this special only on The Desiree Show.
Warm thanks to all the Chargers PR Department and to all the players whom have given me time and to those who will in the future.
Also, would like to once again thank the ever so talented Mark Penxa for the art, I did make some changes, but he designed the Desiree SHOW logo, this one I have kept and found that it worked perfectly for this special on my show with one quick addition.
Make sure to tune in to The Desiree SHOW on Dash Radio on Wednesday’s 4-5 PM PST for my weekly hits, quick interviews and please make sure to subscribe to the Desiree SHOW on Itunes and SoundCloud and on IG and twitter, so you don’t miss anything!
First, this may be all over the place, please bear with me, it also maybe long winded, but I want to say or pledge to be more active on here, that meaning at least a weekly post.
A plethora of going-ons all over sports, with The Desiree Show and myself.
Probably one of the most amazing Series just finished up, NFL through week 8 surprises, upsets and trades. Plus the tally on Beat the Outsiders after the first 2 quarters for the weekly NFL pickem by skateboarders and a small hold on the show.
As previously mentioned, I will be posting at least one blog a week coinciding with the show and a catch up on past shows that you may have missed. Reminder the Desiree SHOW broadcasts at Dash Radio in Hollywood on Wednesdays, it airs 4-5 PM PST. In addition the show re-ars multiple times throughout the week. I might add some great news as well coming from DASH, which you will patiently need to wait for. The show also is uploaded to Soundcloud and ITunes.
The hold, just a small one I had a procedure two weeks ago on my leg, 13 staples and have to lay low, which is extremely difficult, but I am trying to be a good patient so I don’t have any repercussions, I’ll say make sure you are always covered with sun block and I won’t share the photo with the 13 staples, but I say that ALL was removed successfully. I just need to let my leg heal now, something a bit challenging for a non stop human, but I am.
Since the show moved to DASH, I’ve had some amazing guests both in studio and via the phone and a slew of slated guest lined up.
This Series Dodgers / AstrosWorld Series welcomed two over 100 win teams, the Dodgers with 104 and the Astros 101 and had surpassed many World Series. Was one of the most prolific scoring, new balls and some big time hitting. Congrats to the World Champion Houston Astros on their first tittle ever and heads high although the outcome will always produce a second place, LA Dodgers had a phenomenal run. And please no hate on the players or the GM, it’s sickening to me to see all the rants and dismissals of this team. Remember there are no losers in the WORLD SERIES, no player or GM sucks, ok…I use that as I saw that all over also asking for Dave Roberts head. Maybe you question Roberts pitching line up decisions, blame the loss on Darvish having 2 bad games, leaving 10 on base in Game 7…….doesn’t matter nor does it warrant hate, one of these teams was going to walk away the champion and the other not. This was a GAME 7 series as well! I will say that I was pretty awed at all the players looking really nervous amplifying the importance of this game to all on the diamond.
Thank you and the utmost respect to both teams on the most amazing baseball series I have seen! Congratulations also to Correa’s to be as we all witnessed one of the most amazing proposals post game.
On to the the NFL, trade deadlines offered some shocking news, and predictably non predictable outcomes through the first 2 quarters in the season. here’s a quick I mean really quick whip around, today Colts placed Andrew Luck on IR, Ezekial Elliot will be suspended 6 weeks. The league has 2 teams still unable to get a W, and I have to confess after reading Bill Walsh’s book, ‘The Score Takes Care of Itself’ recently, a must read, I have had expectations of the 49ers in the belief that they can shift the outcome of this newly rebuilding team. That has yet to happen however they acquired Jimmy Garroppola from the Patriots for a 2nd rounder in the 2018 draft with Hoyer making his way to New England the following day with trade to the single QB roster of the Patriots. Unfortuantely their are still 2 teams whom have yet to get a W, the poor Cleveland Browns, whom I also secretly root for weekly and the Niners. Best record in the NFL the 7-1 Philadelphia Eagles. There have been devastating injuries throughout, Aaron Rodgers, JJ Watt, Odell Beckham Jr, Dalvin Cook, DAvid Johnson, Julian Edelman, Andrew Luck and more just too many to address however most currently and scary Bear’s Zach Miller, Joe Flacco’s almost decapitation from Kiko Alonson and sadly also Cleveland Browns longest starter OT Joe Thomas who now missed his first snap in 11 years. He is however doing some journalism via MMQ
Sadly just before I was finishing this post it has been reported that Houston’s DeShaun Watson is out for the season with a torn ACL sustained during practice.
Beat the Outsiders, we have had two episodes on The Desiree SHOWit’s all outside the NFL, skateboarders picking NFL games, yes I wish I could show you our text thread, however it would probably take you 3 weeks to read it and see all the gifs. As of week 8, Rob ‘Patriot’ Welsh takes the last two weeks with back to back impressive 13/15 and 12/13 bringing him in 4th with a prolific texting Cowboy Kenny Hughes in the first place, Steve ‘SKOL’ Olson in the 2nd and JT ‘Bolt‘ Aultz, I might add very quiet in the thread in 3rd. I tanked last week, made 3 changes 20 min before the AM games all for losses, but no crying in football or baseball for that matter.
Here’s the full current overall list and stay tuned for more in depth on all the players!
Thursday Night Football kicking off in 4 hours, AFC EAST showdown.
The (5-2) Buffallo Bills at the (3-5) NY Jets. Bills find themselves a game back from the Patriots with two consecutive wins, while the Jets looking up but not out of the picture either however with 3 back to back losses. I will take the Bills tonight.
The Desiree SHOW Episode 2 of Beat The Outsiders, NFL Weekly Pickem by Skateboarders.
Well episode two of The Desiree Show’s “Beat the Outsiders” was as much fun as expected and as much smack talk as I had hoped plus you got a glimpse also of our actually text threads but a little censored, something I would love to share with you, but I believe you can just visualize from the show. You just can’t see the pictures.
Steve Olson and Sal Barbier join me at the Dash Studios, while Kenny Hughes called in via NYC. Raw and unedited with lots of smack talk, strong biased NFL opinions and picks, competitiveness, sass and lots of laughs!!
Also alot of protectiveness over their picks, especially the birthday to boy, Cowboy Kenny.
Sensitivity by Sal for “his” Saints, Tigers and of course his spirit stick, (which we are all still patiently waiting to actually see even a photo of).
While first place (after week 5) Mr SKOL Olson stays his calm self with witty jabs and subtle words throughout the show
On the thread or in The Desiree SHOW Weekly NFL Pickem, Rob Welsh, Lance Dawes. Chris Pastras, Chris Ray, Packy Fancher, Vinny Ponte and JT Aultz.
Stay tuned for episode 3, 4, and 5 and….. we will try quarterly, but just like skateboarders we did it our way, after week 5. Hopefully the entire crew can make it in once, plus special guest including Jeff Ament, GLove and Ben Harper are slated as well.
Heads up on the video dropping from our inaugural show that kick it off, thanks to former center Ted Newsome.
The Desiree SHOW, First Downs and Flip Tricks, the place where the NFL and skateboarding meet.
Tune in weekly Wednesday’s on Dash Radio 4-5 PM PST.
You can follow the Desiree SHOW on IG at @TheDesireeSHOW or Twitter @TheDesiree_Show or Facebook/ The Desiree SHOW for up shows coming up, and to stay up to date on the tally of Beat The Outside.
