ITL: Wildcard Sunday Chargers head to Ravens

ICYMI January 3, 2019 episode ( LAC vs BAL week)

Inside The Locker Room with Desiree always raw and unedited with ambient noise.

Wildcard week, Chargers head to Baltimore to face the Ravens for the second time in 3 weeks. I spoke with Mike Williams and Russell Okung on the match up, the advantages and the similarities with other championship teams these two have been apart of.

After Eric D Williams, ESPN beat writer for the Chargers and I spoke on the match up, again more advantages vs a team twice especially on a quick turn around and Eric even tossed in his predictions.

Up now on Itunes and Soundcloud.

Enjoy Wildcard Weekend!

And as always thank you to the Chargers PR for the opportunity and to you all for your support.

Black Monday

Black Monday! A dreaded day unlike Black Friday for avid sale shoppers (which I do not partake in) this morning five head coaches were fired, last night one and the tally now is up to 8 head coach openings in the NFL. Yes, this is something one knows going into the position however remember these individuals are people, ones with families. Couple that with the irony of it landing on New Years Eve, not what anyone hopes for.

This morning the below head coaches were fired.

Vance Joseph (Broncos)

Steve Wilks (Cardinals)

Adam Gase (Dolphins)

Marvin Lewis (Bengals)

Dirk Koetter (Buccaneers)

Todd Bowles (Jets) last night

Week 13 Mike McCarthy (Packers)

Week 8 Hue Jackson (Browns)

Jacksonville’s Doug Marrone and Panthers’ Ron Rivera will return for 2019 season.

Michael Gehlken & Alex Corporan on The Desiree SHOW

I welcomed two amazing men on October 2, 2018 for The Desiree Show, which broadcasts on Tuesdays and airs on Wednesdays 4-5 PM PST on Dash Radio.

Michael Gehlken beat reporter for the Raiders for The  Las Vegas Review Journal  and former beat reporter for the San Diego Chargers, a great perspective especially with the LA Chargers hosting the Raiders Sunday.  No better person with a more unique perspective  having covered both teams than Michael.

Also, on the show via New York, the Godfather of skateboarding, the tour guide, a mayor, and the list goes on…… the one and only Alex Corporan. Former pro skateboarder whom helped brand Supreme as we know it today, Skate Night in NY, El Senor among a slew of other brands he has had his hands on. One whom is always giving back to the community and impacting all the lives he touches.  Alex also has a board dropping in December on Raised Fist Propaganda.

The King of Lower Manhattan! Part city historian, part black Anthony bordain, full time tour/party/spot guide, full time tastemaker, full time rad dad, full blown NYC skate legend, and all the way New York.

Every out of town skater who’s ever visited New York has learned the ropes from Alex…Thank you Bro!

Dr Jen Welter back on The Desiree Show

Dr. Jen Welter joined me on The Desiree Show, a special treat to have this amazing dynamo on and this was the second time, the first in late November in studio with Byron Chamberlain.

Dr Je5911bc_8525e60f06f04c03ab61475741134d84~mv2_d_1688_2550_s_2n Welter has invaluable insight and experience as the first female RB, first female NFL Coach amongst a slew of other assets, such as on the advisory board for the Pro Football HOF, did I mention she also has a  book, Play Big. If you have the chance to meet this dynamo or see her speak I highly recommend it!

“She joined us for an internship for training camp I think 2015. Only became acquainted slightly both of our schedules were overwhelmingly busy that month. From what I noticed she fit right in, hard working and energetic.”
Andy Levy
Turf Manager /Specialist AZ Cardinals

She impacts everyone she comes in contact with, her main priority the best for the team, whom and whatever that is. This woman is constantly raising the level and of anyone on her path.

“Jen Welter is a one of a kind person. She has continued the talk on equality and has proven to gotten the message heard around the world.”
Frostee Rutgers DE AZ Cardinals

On this most recent time, Jen was headed to AZ for her second Jen Welter’s Grrridiron Girls Flag Football to the city she received her first coaching position with.

This Sunday, April 8, 2018 she will be at El Segundo Athletic Fields 2201 E Mariposa Ave, El Segundo, California 90245 to bring her, yet another, first LA appearance of her camp, along side a posse of multi talented NFL vets including Byron Chamberlain ( whom I’m happy to say met in studio for The Desiree Show). They both had so many special long time close friends, was odd that they hadn’t met already.  If you missed it live both shows are also up on ITunes or Soundcloud.

Here’s the direct  link to register.

Jen’s open and non judging views from her heart also gave some insight to me on powder puff football, the positives that is and gave me a different perspective.

Warm thanks to this amazing human for her time and sharing her heart.  If you missed the show on Dash Radio here it is.

Also, if you missed Byron and Jen on the show, back in November here that is as well.

I hope to go on Sunday, if so I’ll have more images and words about the specialness.

The Desiree Show airs on Wednesdays 4-5 PM PST on Dash Radio, if you miss it, its loaded up on Soundcloud and ITunes.

Michael Booker, A Champion On and Off the Field

With a constant vein of winning, number ones, championships and firsts, Michael Booker has remained humble, focused and grateful throughout his journey and continues to give back. Sports saves lives a cliché, but it definitely impacted Michael’s path. Born in Cincinnati, raised in Oceanside catapulted through football to Lincoln, onward to Atlanta, Tennessee and currently Grand Prairie.

Michael didn’t have football on his radar, but after the loss of a friend, Defensive Coordinator, Bill Kovacevich grabbed him and sent him out on the field with minimal instructions, essentially don’t let them catch the ball.   The gesture would change his whole life and fill Michael with a deep gratitude to his Wild Cat DC for stepping into his life. Led by Head Coach Herb Meyer the two year starter and letterman, was also apart of two county titles for El Camino High School and earned all-league honors twice.

Along with championships, Booker also seemed to be guided or mentored by some all-time coaches, Herb Meyer, Tom Osborne, Charlie McBride, Jim Schwartz, Dan Reeves and Jeff Fisher, to name a few.   In regards to his goals, he has always given one hundred percent, but he hasn’t met them all. A man inspired by good people, coaches and great role models, including his dad, older and younger brothers.

In regards to his successes, Michael humbly replied,

“Its almost strange if I didn’t succeed with so many people believing in me, inspiring me and putting me in the right direction………God is good.“

A focus that stayed with Booker, a future not even on his radar, but with help from his teachers, possibilities and dreams arose, moving him to Lincoln, Nebraska and being on another number one team as Huskers received two back to back National Championships and following Booker, the Defensive MVP of the 1996 Fiesta Bowl.

Then into the 1997 NFL Draft where he was selected by Atlanta in the first round pick 11, and a team who a season later made their first appearance in franchise history to Super Bowl XXXIII with a 14-2 record and crowned the NFC Champs. After three seasons with the Falcons he moved to the AFC Central’s Tennessee Titans until he retired.

A young man who was given a car from Budget after the draft and was grateful for the ride, who also bought an apartment versus a mansion and thought nothing of it, not until he was told by his Falcon’s teammates that it wasn’t a NFL Draft Round 1 car. It didn’t change anything however for the modest hard working man.

Although the road took off in Oceanside he resides in Grand Prairie, Texas, recently Michael has come back to give back with his non-profit, Achieve Your Champion, inspiring kids and adults to live a healthier and a more nutritional life with one of their biggest programs, Sacking Childhood Obesity and tackling it thru the youth.

Michael Booker truly is inspiring and doing so to all those that cross his path with an uncharacteristic humility or maybe that’s the key, as he continues to give back and share his experience, strength and hope to all he encounters.

“When I think of Michael Booker, the word champion comes to mind.  He was a champion in high school, he was a champion in college, and he was a champion in the NFL, now he is helping others achieve their champion. I’m truly proud and honored to call him my friend.”

Bryant Westbrook, Former NFL CB & El Camino Wildcat
