Brandon Mebane shares heartbreak at Chargers

Costa Mesa, CA – Chargers HQ’s

Heartbreaking news today at Chargers HQ’s as Brandon Mebane disclosed the loss of their daughter. No words seem to be appropriate or enough to give to someone who has lost a child.

As a journalist or reporter it is my job to report what’s going on however as a person who loves people and honors their privacy during difficult times it’s a challenging one to navigate, as it was today at the Chargers.

In the presser Coach Lynn was asked about the status of Mebane for Sunday vs. Patriots, he said he’s working today and expecting him to play, unless something happens.

I saw Brandon in the locker room I stopped to shake his hand, believing that it was a good sign to see him, and say that my prayers are still with him and his family. I had no idea that his daughter had passed last Thursday, no one did at this point.

As things proceeded in the locker room, as they do with different media interviewing different players, Brandon’s locker became swamped with five times the amount of media for practice than normal, he was surrounded, too many to try and get close. This is when he disclosed the heartbreaking news that his 7-week old daughter Makenna, died Thursday.

“I’m still thankful, and I thank God every day,” Mebane said. “I still pray. We’re taking it one day at a time.”

I had honored his privacy today, I just welcomed him back and shared my continued prayers being a very sensitive and personal manner with his family, and what they have endured the last 7 weeks with his infant daughter in the hospital, but he did share his heartbreak.

I wanted to kick myself in some regards and in another regards I’m grateful I didn’t ask more, however would that have been better for him, to hear, that I wanted to ask how his daughter was doing?

My prayers, thoughts and healing love continue to be with Brandon, his wife Amena, and their two children, Mahailey and Makai during this heartbreaking and devastating time.

Eric D Williams broke the story and has had a long friendship with Brandon since his time in Seattle, so I will share his link here.

Upset at Gillette? Kickoff in Minutes

Upset at Gillette or More of the same?

As the game nears within 30 minutes to kickoff at Gillette Stadium to a crisp and pretty perfect January football temp of 48 degrees for the AFC Championship game. The number one seeded Patriots vs the sixth seeded Jaguars get set.

I continue to listen, read and watch all the media via radio, twitter & TV.  While doing so I see New England finding  themselves in a very perfect Patriot way.

A dangerous position for any opponent when speculators feel they may have a slight advantage that’s when it continues to be real quiet. A scary alarming under the radar feeling ready to annihilate.

Natural inclinations sway to the suppose underdog, although I have come out publicly over 2 months ago, maybe even further back that I saw Viking & Patriots as this years Super Bowl contenders.  I do know history and that whatever weapons you may have Bill Bellichick will find a way to take it out of the equation, he always does.  However the constant play by play of Tom Brady’s throwing hand and stitches does have you thinking that maybe this time someone can go in to Foxborough and beat them, then you slap yourselves and realize no this is the Patriots and a hoody clan Bill will have a genius plan.

960x0

I do have to add I am a defensive fan, so if some way Sacksonville can get to Tom and throw him off I can see Jacksonville being able to win.  But it will take 60 FULL minutes even if they get Tom rattled Patriots always always re scheme make adjustments in the 2nd half.

And don’t forget Tom Coughlin’s connections either, nor what Marrone can do, they did make it to the final 4 in the league and they have the us against the world mentality as well.

I think if some how this number one Defense comes in with a plan knowing that Bill will take their number ones out of the equation and they do play 60 minutes they can get a W, but you have to always remember this is Bill Bellichick, and anything can and will, this team feeds of the hate towards them.

Enjoy fist half of the Championship Sunday!

Also, did you know what TV series came from Minnesota?  I sure didn’t, and was surprised to hear not only that it was Little House on the Prairie, but that Byron knew that.

Our picks are on the show, however I will let you know I ended up shifting one that was a heart pick that some how Jacksonville could go in and get a W at Heinz Field.

Also, if you missed last weeks show I was thankful to welcome back Nick Ferguson, on January 3, we also went through our picks for the Wild Card Weekend, and I will admit I was only 500, 2 out of 4 of the picks.

Here’s the show if you missed on Dash.

One more bit of vital info for you all, if you are headed to Minneapolis for Super Bowl 52, Byron is involved in a pretty rad event Artic Bold in downtown  at Stella’s Fish Cafe on February 1st you can still get tickets here.
